Checkpoints:
Start - Clocktower
Stop1 - East Arena Steps
Stop2 - Wild Walls Climbing Gym
Stop3 - Alley Behind Davenport Parking Garage
Mystery Stop - Riders had to use the quarter they found in their manifest envelope and return with one piece of individually wrapped candy (This was a strict matter. Unwrapped candies would have resulted in a disqualification for missing a stop). =)
Finish - The grass at the Masonic Temple.

This was an all out mash to the finish line. Some people chose their own routes while other tried to keep up and draft. Wild Walls was probably the most difficult stop with riders having to cross Washington St. and in doing so negotiate alleyways and one-way streets.

Average times ran approximately 17 minutes during the entire sprint.

This was a short race to generate interest in messenger style bike racing and to promote the sport of cycling in general. The competitors had a fun and exciting race, finishing the event with a leisurely group ride to Couer d'Alene park in historic Brownes Addition for a skid contest, bike tricks, stories, and festivity. Each participant received a water bottle from Two Wheel Transit and a free climb at Wild Walls. Most riders have already committed to the next Alley-Cat.

We at Morris Post are eager to see how quickly the Alley-Cat fever catches on.

AUGUST 8TH 2003 @ 7PM

  • Race starts at 7p, at the Riverfront Park Clocktower. $5 ENTRY FEE.

  • Riders without helmets will never hear the end of it!!!

  • Racers will be required to locate an undisclosed amount of checkpoints along the way.

  • Checkpoints and finish location TBA at the start of the race!

  • THERE IS NO SET RACE COURSE, ALL RACERS MUST DETERMINE ROUTING.

  • Keep in mind it is not illegal to follow others, if you can keep up...

  • FREE BEER FOR ALL RIDERS!  PRIZES FOR WINNERS!   FIESTA AFTER THE RACE!

  • $5 for non-racers who want to drink beer with us.

When we meet at the clocktower, we'll gather entry fees, names and team names for those who choose to ride for a team. Once we're satisfied that all willing participants are present, each racer will receive a manifest... after you have one, proceed to each checkpoint and follow ALL DIRECTIONS ON THE MANIFEST EXACTLY! This is very important as you will be disqualified at the finish line if you have missed any stops. This is an all out race to the finish, one male and one female winner will be crowned after a group ride to the party spot...TBA. Prizes will be awarded at the fiesta!
